Position: Anesthesiologist – Cardiothoracic Experience Preferred
Location: Minneapolis VA Health Care System, One Veterans Drive, Minneapolis, MN 55417
Position Type: Contract | Long-Term, Full-Time (Base Year + Four Option Years)
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: $700,000/year
- Earning Potential: Up to $1,100,000 annually (negotiable based on experience, call participation, and coverage scope)
- Schedule: Monday – Friday, 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (Excluding Federal Holidays)
- Estimated Hours: 80 hours every two weeks
- Rotating On-Call Schedule: Collaboratively confirmed
- Lunch Break: 30-minute unpaid

Key Responsibilities
- Administer anesthesia and monitor patients during surgical procedures
- Develop and implement anesthesia care plans with surgical teams
- Provide pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative patient care
- Evaluate patient histories and perform physical assessments for anesthesia protocols
- Maintain accurate patient records following VA policies
- Respond confidently to anesthesia-related emergencies
- Contribute to educational programs and anesthesia practice improvements
- Follow safety standards, infection control protocols, and federal regulations
Note: Cardiac device implantation (pacemakers, LVADs, defibrillators) may be involved but is not the primary responsibility.
Qualifications
- M.D. or D.O. degree
- Board Certified in Anesthesiology
- Cardiothoracic anesthesia experience preferred
- Active, unrestricted U.S. medical license (any state)
- Proven clinical experience in hospital or surgical settings
- Strong clinical judgment and ability to work independently
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Compassionate, patient-centered care in a high-demand environment
- Knowledge of VA policies and federal regulations desirable
