About This Opportunity
JR Enterprise LLC (JRE), in partnership with the Department of Veterans Affairs, is seeking a Board-Certified Medical Oncology Physician to provide high-quality oncology services to Veterans at the Providence VA Medical Center.
This long-term contract opportunity allows physicians to deliver comprehensive cancer care in an advanced clinical environment aligned with nationally recognized standards of care established by the The Joint Commission and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
You will work within a multidisciplinary healthcare team supporting inpatient and outpatient oncology services while making a meaningful impact on the lives of U.S. Veterans.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert oncology consultation, diagnosis, and treatment management for Veterans
- Deliver comprehensive inpatient (1%) and outpatient (99%) oncology care
- Evaluate and triage primary care and specialty consults for oncology referrals
- Conduct history and physical examinations and order appropriate diagnostic studies
- Develop and implement individualized cancer treatment plans
- Coordinate care within a multidisciplinary healthcare delivery system
- Manage medication therapy according to established VA pharmacy policies
- Provide discharge education and coordinate follow-up care
- Participate in tumor boards, peer review activities, and quality improvement programs
- Document all clinical encounters in the VA Electronic Health Record system (CPRS/VistA)
- Perform administrative duties including OPPE and FPPE participation
- Provide on-call oncology coverage as assigned
Clinical Load Expectations
- Approximately 90% direct patient care
- Estimated workload per 1.0 FTE:
- 5 hours inpatient oncology coverage weekly
- 26 hours bookable outpatient clinic time weekly
- Average clinical productivity target: ~2 patients per hour for scheduled visits
Schedule & Coverage Details
- Clinic Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
- On-Call Coverage: Required for evenings, weekends, and federal holidays
On-call providers must be available:
- By phone within 15 minutes
- Onsite within 60 minutes if clinically required
Replacement coverage must be arranged within 2 hours if a scheduled physician is unable to complete an assigned shift.
Required Qualifications
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
- Board Certification in Medical Oncology through the American Board of Internal Medicine
- Minimum full, unrestricted U.S. medical license (any state, territory, or District of Columbia)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Valid National Provider Identifier (NPI)
- DEA registration (if applicable)
- Ability to complete VA credentialing and privileging requirements
- Fluency in English (spoken, written, and clinical documentation)
Preferred Experience
- Multidisciplinary oncology care in hospital or clinic settings
- Experience managing complex cancer treatment plans
- Familiarity with electronic medical record systems such as CPRS/VistA
- Participation in tumor boards and clinical quality programs
