Medical Supply Technician

Location: Louisville, KY 40206
Schedule: Rotational shifts; Monday–Tuesday & Thursday–Saturday (off Wednesday) OR Monday–Wednesday & Friday–Saturday (off Thursday).
Hours: 7:30am – 4:00pm or 8:00am – 4:30pm EST


Duties & Responsibilities
Customer & Professional Interaction

  • Interact daily with clinical staff, Logistics personnel, administrative staff, and vendors.
  • Provide customer support and escalate issues to supervisors or Inventory Management Specialists as necessary.

Inventory Management & Stock Control

  • Maintain stock levels at primary and secondary inventory locations throughout the medical center.
  • Pull and replenish inventory, ensuring FIFO rotation and removal of expired or compromised items.
  • Monitor and document expiration dates, recalls, and hazard alerts.
  • Perform daily inventories using bar-coding equipment; reconcile discrepancies between physical stock and system data.
  • Recommend adjustments to stock levels based on usage trends.
  • Support wall-to-wall and periodic inventories.

Distribution & Supply Delivery

  • Distribute supplies using automated inventory systems such as GIP/VISTA/AbovePAR/ParEx.
  • Respond to routine, urgent, and emergent supply requests using pagers or communication devices.
  • Deliver supplies to wards, clinics, operating rooms, and remote sites—possibly requiring motor vehicle operation.
  • Prepare and stock specialty carts.

Receiving & Storage

  • Unpack, receive, store, and ship bin and bulk supplies according to sterile storage standards.
  • Ensure items are properly labeled, stored, and tracked in the computerized system.
  • Consolidate materials to optimize space and maintain supply integrity.

Work Area Maintenance

  • Clean shelves and bins according to aseptic and infection-control guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness while transitioning between various hospital environments.

Safety & PPE Compliance

  • Wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as directed.
  • Follow all workplace safety practices to reduce risks of injury, contamination, or environmental hazards.

Other Duties

  • Perform general supply-chain support tasks as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency in English: speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension.
  • Basic math skills and the ability to perform measurement-related tasks.
  • Knowledge of supply and inventory management procedures, stock rotation, and handling of recalled items.
  • Ability to interpret policies, procedures, manuals, directives, and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and automated inventory systems.
  • Ability to use barcode equipment and computerized supply management software.
  • Strong judgment and problem-solving skills; ability to escalate unresolved issues appropriately.

Physical Requirements

  • Standing and walking for the entire shift.
  • Frequent reaching, bending, and lifting of supply packages (up to 50 lbs).
  • Ability to push loaded carts weighing 100+ lbs.
  • With assistance, lift items over 40 lbs.
  • Work in varied environments including wards, warehouses, storage buildings, and areas that may be hot, cold, dusty, or poorly lit.
